Yes, Huggies® Pure wipes contain 30% plastic, whilst Extra Care wipes contain 29% plastic. The wipes are made with between 70-71% natural absorbent fibres that gently clean and protect baby’s delicate skin. Their unique design means Huggies® Wipes offer soft, kind care even for the most sensitive skin, whilst still absorbing some of the toughest messes easily.

Huggies® baby wipes contain up to 50% less plastic than other leading baby wipe brands. By switching to Huggies® from other leading baby wipe brands, the average household could reduce its plastic use by 63* bottles per year**.

Huggies® is 100% committed to gently caring for your baby’s delicate skin, which is why our wipes are so mild and soft to touch. Our wipes feel different because they contain less plastic than wipes from other leading brands. Our Huggies® Pure wipes are made from 70% skin-loving natural fibres (wood pulp), and our Huggies® Pure Extra Care baby wipes are made with 71% skin-loving natural fibres (wood pulp). Our Extra Care wipes have been recognised for their quality and were awarded Product of the Year 2019 in the Baby Care Category (Survey of 10,399 people by Kantar).

Huggies® knows only the best will do when it comes to caring for your little one, which is why caring for skin safely is always front of mind when it comes to developing our products. Our wipes are clinically tested and safe to use on your newborn from day one. Our baby wipes are made from at least 70% skin loving natural fibres (wood-pulp) and no more than 30% plastic to ensure they are strong enough for cleaning whilst being gentle on baby’s skin. In addition, the research behind Huggies® baby wipes is recognised by the British Skin Foundation.

Baby wipes are being incorrectly disposed of down the toilet, which means they are eventually ending up in our sewers and oceans. To help prevent this, Huggies® packs feature labelling on the front, side and back of all our wipes with a “Do Not Flush” icon. We advise all our customers to place used wipes in the waste bin, so they can be disposed of responsibly. We believe that helping people to understand the safe way of disposing of baby wipes, including through improved labelling, is key to reducing improper disposal. Huggies® is currently working with stakeholders, including water companies and trade associations, to develop initiatives to reduce the impact of non-flushable wipes on the environment. We ask you to help prevent baby wipes ending up in our sewers and oceans by disposing of them responsibly.

All baby wipes should be disposed of in the bin and never flushed down the toilet. Our Huggies® baby wipes are clearly labelled with a “Do Not Flush” icon on the front, side and back of packs to remind customers of this.

Huggies® is on a mission to reduce and ultimately eliminate plastic from all of its baby wipes.

Last year, we removed 17 tonnes of plastic per year from the Huggies Extra Care range through innovative product development. This year, we removed 359 tonnes of plastic from our total wipes portfolio (based on annual volumes). Next year, our baby wipes will have packaging that can also be recycled with film and carrier bags at larger supermarkets, including Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Sainsburys, The Co-Op and Waitrose. Within five years (or sooner if we can), our baby wipes will be plastic-free, and the packaging will be fully recyclable at home with your household recycling. To achieve our long-term goal of eliminating plastic, we are actively working with universities, suppliers and other partners to develop new eco-friendly materials to replace the plastic in our wipes.

We are already making strong progress in this area. As we continue to develop the full Huggies® wipes portfolio to be even gentler on the environment, we hope you will join us on our journey.

However, for those who want a biodegradable solution today, October 2020 saw us launch one new biodegradable product into our portfolio, Huggies® Pure Biodegradable baby wipes. These are plastic-free skin loving wipes made with 100% naturally derived fibres which gently clean and protect your baby’s skin while reducing your impact on the environment.

In the meantime, you can make a positive change by switching to Huggies® wipes today to lower your plastic usage and the average UK household could save the equivalent of 63* plastic bottles a year.**

Next year, we will be launching new recyclable packaging for our baby wipes and within five years (or sooner if we can), our baby wipes will be plastic-free and the packaging will be fully recyclable at home with your household recycling. This new plastic-free wipe will be affordable and safe and gentle on baby’s skin. We know urgent action is needed and we're working hard to make changes to our wipes as quickly as possible. These changes take time and require extensive research and development to ensure our products are environmentally friendly, gentle on baby’s skin, and remain affordable for the families that rely on them.

There is currently no industry-wide plastic symbol or label agreed, however last year we labelled our packs with the composition of our wipes which was a ground-breaking move for this category.

We strive to improve our impact on the environment by reducing our reliance on single-use plastic, with a vision to transition to fully sustainable packaging across our portfolio. Next year, our baby wipes will have packaging that can be recycled with film and carrier bags at larger supermarkets, including Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Sainsburys, The Co-Op and Waitrose.

Yes, all leading baby wipes brands contain plastic in their wipes. Huggies® baby wipes contain up to 50% less plastic than any other leading baby wipe brands and are made from at least 65% skin-loving natural fibres (wood pulp).

Huggies® Pure Biodegradable wipes

Huggies® Pure Biodegradable wipes will be available to buy in single packs only, for the time being. There are 56 wipes in each pack.

In consumer testing, these wipes performed as well as our current range of products.

Our packaging will clearly illustrate which products are biodegradable. Currently it will only be Huggies® Pure Biodegradable which are biodegradable, when disposed of with household waste. By calling out our biodegradable positioning on any product, we have to adhere to strict regulatory conditions and tests.

Yes, the packaging of Huggies® Pure Biodegradable is a LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene) which can be recycled with carrier bags at larger stores. The packaging will be clearly labelled as per the required On Pack Recycling Label (OPRL) requirements and we will also ensure our website educates our consumers on the available recycling locations.

These wipes are made of 100% skin loving, naturally derived, plant based fibres which do not contain plastic.

As they do not contain plastic, Huggies® Pure Biodegradable wipes will not release microplastics into the environment.

Baby wipes should never be flushed down the toilet. The way the fibres of a baby wipe are bonded together gives adequate strength to withstand tough messes which babies create, therefore they are not designed to break up in the toilet flushing process. All Huggies® Baby wipes should be thrown in the bin and disposed of with household waste.

No. Huggies® Pure Biodegradable baby wipes are NOT compostable and should only be disposed of with household waste. Also for health and safety reasons, human waste should not be put in a home compost bin.

Currently we have no plans to make our wipes compostable. When wipes have been used to clean up faeces and other messes, they need to be disposed of in a safe and hygienic manner. Home composting can't always guarantee this.

The majority of large supermarkets have recycling bins for flexible film packaging such as plastic carrier bags, bread bags, toilet roll bags. Unfortunately, we currently don't have a collection service for our recyclable packaging. Please keep checking https://www.recyclenow.com/what-to-do-with/plastic-film for an up-to-date list of local facilities.

We have worked with the British Skin Foundation over many years. Our accreditation means that they have approved our methods of research into Infant Skin Health.

All our products are safe to use on baby’s delicate skin from day one.

Our mission is to introduce an affordable baby wipes product to market which focuses on baby’s skin and the environment. This shouldn't cost the earth so we will be recommending they are priced in line with our Extra Care portfolio which is available in the market already. Pricing is solely the domain of the retailer.
